Charity poised to race in Worlds

Joel Reichenberger

— The news has been good and bad for Steamboat Springs professional cyclist Amy Charity.

The good news — that Charity had been selected by her team, Optum Pro Cycling, to compete in Sunday’s team time trial event at the Road World Championships in Richmond, Virginia — came last week. Charity was one of several cyclists competing for the opportunity.

The bad news came Saturday, when cyclingnews.com reported the team sustained significant injury during a training session. The lead rider hit a pothole and fell, resulting in a pileup that sent one woman to the hospital. Charity was involved, but escaped comparatively unscathed.

The team was still hoping to compete in the race.
