Challenger Cup game today

— The Steamboat Springs Youth Hockey Association hopes to put a cap on another successful season with the Challenger Cup sponsor appreciation game.

“The coaches and sponsors from each team are invited to celebrate the end of the season, say thank you to all the sponsors and have some fun,” said Dave Strang, SSYHA director of player development and coaching.

It will be the first time the SSYHA has put on the Challenger Cup, but Amy Hill, who organizes sponsors for SSYHA, said she hopes the event will become an annual traditon.

“Without our sponsors we wouldn’t have these events,” Hill said. “It’s a first year event, but he hope to continue it.”

One of the teams will be made up of players from participating sponsors while the other team will be a mixture of coaches and players – ages squirts and up – from the SSYHA

Strang said each of the youth teams will select a player to represent at the game, which starts at 8 p.m., today at the Howelsen Ice Arena.
