CenturyLink error results in Pilot & Today phones being disconnected

— Phone lines at the Steamboat Pilot & Today and Craig Daily Press were reconnected Saturday afternoon after a mistake by CenturyLink resulted in the disconnection of all of the offices’ phone numbers.

The problem began Friday afternoon, and CenturyLink customer service representatives originally said Saturday that the error couldn’t be resolved until Monday, when the company’s business office resumes its normal operating hours.

“It’s not within our policy to not turn phones back on. I would say we’re very customer focused,” said Mark Molzen, CenturyLink’s media contact for Denver and northern Colorado. “That frustrates me that that’s how our customers are treated. … We work very hard to be customer focused. Obviously, we missed the opportunity to provide that.”

Tom Ptach — owner of Pilot Office Outfitters, which closed its downtown location in 2010 to focus on online sales — said he filed a request with CenturyLink to have his business’s phone line disconnected. The request resulted in CenturyLink mistakenly disconnecting the phones at the Pilot & Today and Craig Daily Press offices.
