Carpet Shoppe wins men’s B softball

The Carpet Shoppe rolled out a victory in the men’s B League softball championship game Tuesday night, beating Market on the Mountain/Slopeside Grill/Steamboat Floral & Gifts, 18-8.

“We had it in the bag, but those guys are a ball club that can come back. All it takes is an inning of rallying the bats,” said Carpet Shoppe captain Zach Sabel. “With all the fans they had, it made it a little more nerve-racking.”

Going up four runs in the first, the No. 2-seeded Market team could not regain the lead after the Shoppe answered, scoring seven in the bottom of the first and 11 in the fourth to hold onto and secure the lead for the remainder of the game behind the pitching of Jeff Nelson.

“It was a great last game,” said Market captain Gary Roney, having won a close come-from-behind semifinal victory against Double Z/All That Jazz by a score of 18-17 to advance to the championship. “Everybody played well, had fun and that’s what it’s all about.”

Having won both the league and title, Carpet Shoppe will move up to men’s A League next season.
