Carla Jean Columbia Nelson

Carla Jean Columbia Nelson died Dec. 8, 2004, at her home in Craig following a lengthy illness. She was 53.

Carla Jean Columbia was born April 19, 1951, in Denver to George and Carol Columbia. She was raised primarily in Craig, where she attended high school.

Carla married Robert Gary Nelson on Dec. 27, 1995, in Las Vegas, Nev. They lived in Grand Junction for five years but spent most of their married life in Craig.

Carla worked as a certified nursing assistant and personal care provider for the Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association in Craig and Steamboat Springs.

She enjoyed camping, fishing and sewing. But most of all, she loved to be near her grandchildren.

Carla was preceded in death by her mother, Carol Martin; and a son, Russell Albaugh.

She is survived by her husband, Robert G. Nelson of Craig; two daughters, Veronica Otero and her husband Kirk, and Vickie Petterson and her husband Jerome, all of Craig; a daughter-in-law, Trixie Albaugh of Craig; seven grandchildren; her father and stepmother, George and Fay Columbia of Hotchkiss; two sisters, Pat Bowen of Marsing, Idaho, and Teresa Sharp of West Covina, Calif.; two brothers, Bud Barrett of Rimrock, Ariz., and Jeffrey Columbia of Fort Collins; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held Dec. 12, 2004, at Grant Mortuary in Craig. Gay Albers officiated.
