Cardinals trump Tigers

The Grand Valley Cardinals scored 15 points in the first quarter of Friday’s game against Hayden and never looked back.

The Cardinals, 3-1 in the Western Slope League this season, rolled past the Tigers 42-0 on Friday night in Parachute.

The Cardinals’ victory keeps that team in the running for the league title along with teams from Meeker and Rangely. All three teams are one game behind league-leading Paonia.

The Tigers, on the other hand, are battling to stay out of last place along with West Grand. After winning the first two nonleague games of the season, the Tigers have stumbled in their past four contests. Hayden, 2-4 overall, and 0-4 in league play, is tied with West Grand at 0-5 overall and 0-4 for the bottom spot in the league.
