The Routt County Regional Building Department will host a second free community workshop about Heat Pumps and Geothermal Systems from 5-7 p.m. March 19 at the Routt County Commissioners Room at 522 Lincoln Ave. in downtown Steamboat Springs.

The class will provide information on heat pumps, including air to air, air to water, water to water, heating, cooling and water heating, as well as the pros and cons of natural gas versus electric resistance systems. The class will cover information on the different types of geothermal system options as well as state tax credits now available.

Workshop registration is required via email tcarr@co.routt.co.us.

Colorado Heat Pump Tax Credits are available to assist Coloradans installing eligible heat pump technology for space heating and cooling and water heating. Natural gas use in buildings is among the top five sources of greenhouse gas emissions in Colorado, according to state officials.

Residents, businesses and organizations, including tax-exempt institutions, can receive a portion of the tax credit as an upfront discount on the cost of installing a heat pump through a registered contractor.
