Bud Werner Library to host documentary screening on nuclear waste
Bud Werner Library is screening the new documentary film “Half Life of Memory: America’s Forgotten Atomic Bomb Factory” at 7 p.m. Thursday in Library Hall, followed by a conversation with people involved with the film.
The documentary focuses on the Rocky Flats plant in Boulder, which manufactured about 70,000 atomic bombs for thermonuclear warheads.
The plant was concealed by government secrecy, dealing with consistent fires, leaks and illicit dumping of nuclear waste that contaminated the Dever area with radioactive toxins.
Through powerful testimonials, the film exposes the Rocky Flats’ dark past and enduring impact.
After the screening, director Jeff Gipe, Rock Flats veteran Judy Padilla and former FBI agent Jon Lipsky will host a conversation about the documentary.
