Brodie takes 1st for Steamboat Nordic team at Cordillera

— The Steamboat Springs High School Nordic ski team continues to make its climb toward state, which now is less than three weeks away at Keystone.

On Saturday, the girls team took second overall at the Eagle Valley qualifier at Cordillera, aided by Katie Brodie’s first-place finish. Natalie Bohlmann was in a battle for third place, coach Harry Niedl said, but settled for fifth. Lindsey Adler took ninth as six Sailors girls were in the race’s top 20.

Tait Dixson led the boys side with his 20th-place finish. Peter Myller was next up in 30th and Micah Gibbons took 31st.

Niedl said Cordillera’s course conditions were trickier than usual and getting the ski wax just right proved difficult. But with many of the opposing teams’ top skiers away at Soldier Hollow, Steamboat saw some top-20 finishes.

The team will be back on course Saturday at the Frisco Nordic Center for a 5K mass start.
