Lift ticket winners announced

Forest Service Road 900 closed until Oct. 4

U.S. Forest Service Road 900 is closed above the Bear Lake Campground until Oct. 4. The closure will affect road access to dispersed camping above Bear Lake Campground, Horseshoe Campground, Cold Springs Campground, Smith Lake Trailhead parking area and the Stillwater parking area. The closures will allow workers to improve a trailhead and disperse camping sites in the Bear River corridor. The improvements were suggested by public comment, Forest Service officials said. Medical fund established at Wells Fargo Bank

A medical fund has been established at Wells Fargo Bank in Steamboat Springs for longtime Routt County firefighter and EMT Ken Farmer, who is battling cancer.

Farmer has worked with Oak Creek Fire and Ambulance, West Routt Fire and Ambulance, Steamboat Ski Patrol and other agencies.

Farmer has been accepted to the CICP program, which will cover 90 percent of his surgical costs at the University of Colorado Cancer Center. The fund has been established to help him pay for the estimated $10,000 he will owe.
