— Volunteers needed to finish educational cabin

The World Park Educational Institute is seeking volunteers for finishing renovations on a small educational log cabin and natural products research lab. Part-time volunteers are needed for light carpentry, cabinetry, ranch work, cultivation of herbs, work in research gardens, grant writing, bookkeeping, lab work and other jobs. Second annual Carpenter’s Ball is 6:30 p.m. Saturday

The second annual Carpenter’s Ball is at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Steamboat Grand Resort Hotel. Tickets are $60 a person or $900 for a corporate table. All proceeds benefit Routt County Habitat for Humanity. For more information or to RSVP, call 871-6101.

Steamboat Medical Group offers $30 sports physicals

The Steamboat Springs Booster Club will offer sports physicals this month through Steamboat Medical Group. The physicals are for all middle and high school student athletes. The cost is $30.

The physicals will be offered from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday, May 21, May 22 and May 23. Call Kate Parke at Steamboat Springs High School at 871-3687.

Senior Vocal Scholarship deadline extended

Emerald City Opera has extended the deadline for applications for its Graduating Senior Vocal Scholarship. ECO annually awards one vocal scholarship to a graduating high school senior from Routt County who plans to actively continue vocal study at college or university. The deadline to apply is now Tuesday. To receive an application, e-mail or call 879-1996.

Madama Butterfly auditions Tuesday

Emerald City Opera is holding open auditions for the the 2007 opera production of Madama Butterfly from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church. Performances are Aug. 17 and Aug. 19. Casting for 20 townspeople, 7 Geishas, and comprimario roles for men and women. Bring sheet music for one memorized, solo classical piece. An accompanist will be provided. Call 879-1996.

Dance Theater accepting scholarship applications

The Steamboat Dance Theatre is now accepting applications for dance scholarships for spring or summer dance. Anyone, child through adult, with financial need is welcome to apply for tuition assistance to study dance. Scholarship application forms are available through your local dance teacher or you may download one from or call Wendy Smith Mikelsons at 736-1005. Applications may be mailed to SDT, P.O. Artisans invited to Hahn’s Peak arts and crafts fair

The second annual Hahn’s Peak Arts, Crafts and Antiques Fair is from 10 a.m. To 4 p.m. Aug. 25. Anyone who would like space for the fair should call Marge at 879-7291. Spaces are $30 each, with proceeds benefiting the Hahn’s Peak Historical Society.
