Registration ongoing for girls softball
Registration for girls fast-pitch softball is ongoing at the Steamboat Springs Parks and Recreation office. Girls between 10 and 14 years are eligible for the league, which runs from mid-August through mid-October. Registration is ongoing until Aug. 9 or until the program fills. The $60 registration fee includes uniform top, hat, participation medals and use of equipment and fields. Call 879-4300 with questions.
Arts Council seeks Wine Festival volunteers
The Steamboat Springs Arts Council, non-profit partner for the 2006 Wine Festival, is seeking Wine Festival volunteers from 3 to 7 p.m. Aug. 5 and 2 to 6 p.m. Aug. 6. to help set up, take tickets, staff information booths, etc. Volunteers will receive a free Wine Festival T-shirt and a free pass to one of the tastings. Anyone interested should attend the volunteer meeting from 6 to 7 p.m. on Monday at the Depot. Call 879-9008 ext. 104.
Scarecrows available in silent auction
The Adopt a Scarecrow Project is ongoing at The Depot.
Partners in Routt County, a youth mentoring organization, is the sponsor of the project. Six junior partners were asked to participate in a pilot art program with Partners and Suzy Holloran. Each partner created a unique scarecrow that comes with his or her own story. The scarecrows are up for silent auction. Bids will be accepted until Aug. 1. Money earned will be used for next year’s project. Call 879-6141.
Group offers self-defense class for adult women
Advocates Against Battering and Abuse is offering a self-defense class for adult women from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 5 at Steamboat Springs Middle School. Participants will learn verbal self-defense, physical skills, information about date rape drugs, and sexual assault prevention strategies in a fun and safe environment. The cost is $20. Space is limited, and registration is required. Call Advocates at 879-2034.
Artists needed for annual art walk
Artists are needed to participate in the annual art walk in Torian Plum Plaza. This year’s art walk is being held Aug. 5 in conjunction with the Steamboat Wine Festival. Call Shawn Donnelly at 879-6296.
Emerald City Opera seeks volunteers for production
The Emerald City Opera is seeking volunteers to help with the technical aspects of this year’s production. Experience is preferred but not necessary. Middle school and high school students are welcome. Call Carter at (970) 978-1817 for more information.
