Applications accepted

for dance scholarships

Steamboat Dance Theatre is soliciting applications for its dance scholarship program. Scholarships ranging from $25 to $300, depending on funding availability, are offered to students with any local dance teacher on a confidential, financial-need basis. Applications will be accepted from any instructor; students should speak to their instructors if interested. Spring applications should be received by Jan. 16, although funds may be available on an ongoing basis.



Classic, skate skiing

clinics offered to all levels



The Steamboat Ski Touring Center offers a week’s worth of classic and skate skiing clinics. All ability levels are invited to technique-focused skate ski clinics held from noon to 1 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays; cost is $19. Women-only cross country technique clinics for all ability levels are from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays; cost is $35 and includes lunch. Classic ski clinics for those wanting to improve their technique and learn to ski more efficiently are held from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Masters cross country ski training is offered at 4 p.m. Wednesdays and 11 a.m. Saturdays. Ski for fitness clinics are from noon to 1 p.m. Fridays. For information on all programs, call 879-8180.

Children’s creative dance classes start Monday

A six-week winter session of creative dance classes for children ages 2 to 8 will be offered at Northwest Ballet Studio, 326 Oak St., beginning Monday. To register, call Wendy Smith Mikelsons at Children’s Danceworks at 736-1005. Tuition prices vary according to age and length of class.

‘It’s a Girl Thing’ discussions to continue at the library

This spring, Bud Werner Memorial Library will continue its popular book discussion series for girls and women called “It’s a Girl Thing.” The free program is open to girls ages 10 to 13 and a woman of significance in their lives, such as a mom, grandmother, friend or teacher. Pairs may sign up for one or two discussions. The group will meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Feb. 6, March 5 and April 2. The library will give each pair a copy of the discussion book to keep. Registration is required. Call the library at 879-0240, or stop by the children’s desk to sign up.

Cross country ski clinics offered weekly to women

The Nordic Link and Lake Catamount Touring Center are offering weekly women’s cross country ski clinics from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fridays at Catamount. Classical and skate-skiing clinics are offered, and each session includes an hourlong lunch. The cost is $40. Call 871-6238, ext. 401 to make reservations.
