Battle of the Bands seeks design for T-shirt
The third annual Teen Battle of the Bands will be made more memorable by T-shirts commemorating the event.
A contest is under way to find the design to be used on the T-shirts and posters.
The design should include the words “2006 Teen Battle of the Bands.” Preference will be given to artwork by teens. Designs are due Feb. 1.

Ski under a full moon
at Yampa River State Park
Yampa River State Park, two miles west of Hayden on U.S. Highway 40, will have a full-moon ski and skate open house from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Visitors can cross-country ski on a groomed nature trail, skate on a pond and enjoy roasted hotdogs, hot cocoa and coffee. Visitors also are encouraged to take ingredients for s’mores, which they can roast around a fire.
Educational information, annual passes, snowmobile, off-highway vehicle and boat registrations and souvenirs are available at the park’s visitor center and retail shop, open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The visitor center also features displays about local history.
Horseback riding open at Routt County Fairgrounds
The Routt County Fairgrounds multipurpose building is open to the public for horseback riding. The cost is $5 for two hours. Days and times vary according to the schedules of the volunteer supervisors. The schedule can be viewed at http://www.routtcountyfair.org, or call 276-3068 for more information.
Book discussion for girls, women continues in spring
Bud Werner Memorial Library’s “It’s a Girl Thing” book discussion series for girls and women will continue this spring. This free program is open to girls ages 10 to 12 and a female partner, such as a mom, grandma, friend or teacher. Pairs may sign up for one or two discussions.
The discussions are from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Feb. 3, March 3 and April 7 at the library. The library will give each pair a copy of the discussion book to keep.
Registration is required, and the registration period begins Jan. 3. Call the library at 879-0240 or stop by the children’s desk to sign up. Space is limited.
Registration open for
coed volleyball league
Registration is open for the city of Steamboat Springs’ adult coed volleyball league. Registration ends Friday. The league, which will operate on a four-on-four format, runs from mid-January through early April. Games are Wednesday evenings. Call 879-4300.
Hospital seeks volunteers for information desk
Yampa Valley Medical Center needs volunteers for its lobby information desk and the pain management department. Various hours and shifts are available. Call volunteer coordinator Mindy Fontaine at 870-1146 for more information.
