Volunteers needed to help with the Winter Carnival

Volunteers are needed to help with street events during the 91st annual Winter Carnival to be held Saturday and Sunday. Volunteers are needed both days from about 8 a.m. to noon. To volunteer, call Leslie Dietz at 879-0882, ext. 203.

Valentine Soiree tickets for Feb. 14 are on sale

Tickets are available for the Steamboat Springs Chamber Orchestra’s annual Valentine Soiree. Enjoy an evening of dancing to the live music of the Steamboat Springs Chamber Orchestra, Steamboat Jazz Quartet and Batson, including Trio food, wine and old-fashioned romance. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 14 at the Sheraton Steamboat Resort. Tickets are $45 with proceeds benefitting the Steamboat Springs Chamber Orchestra. Call 879-9008 for reservations.

Volunteers needed for State Ski Championships

Steamboat Springs High School, with the assistance of the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, will host the Colorado High School State Ski Championships on Feb. 20 and 21, just before the high school’s mid-winter break.

Friday’s competition is a giant slalom on Sitz/SeeMe followed by a freestyle 5K Nordic race at the Steamboat Ski Touring Center. Saturday’s races are at Howelsen Hill, with a slalom followed by a classic Nordic 5K.

Volunteers are needed to work as gatekeepers, hand timers, announcers, starters and more for the Alpine races. Only a few positions are needed for the Nordic race, and several helpers are needed for setting up the awards banquet Saturday afternoon. Volunteers for the Alpine races will be given a lift ticket for their workday and a voucher for another ski day at Mount Werner.

Yampa Public Library has extended its hours

Yampa Public Library has extended its hours and is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays. The library is closed Fridays and Sundays.

Entry forms for the 91st Winter Carnival Diamond Hitch Parade on Sunday are available at the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club office at Howelsen Hill Lodge. The entry deadline is today. Call Katy at 879-0695, ext. 116.

Horizons needs volunteers for adaptive ski program.

Volunteers will assist Horizons clients with skiing and snowboarding Saturday afternoons during February and March.

Volunteers do not need a Steamboat Ski Pass to participate.

Free forum on area rural issues will be Thursday

The Colorado Rural Development Council presents a free “Northwest Colorado Rural Issues Forum” from 8:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Thursday at the Shadow Mountain Clubhouse, 1055 Moffat County Road 7, in Craig. The topic will be “Perspectives of our changing economy in Northwest Colorado.” Participants must register by calling Clarke Becker at (719) 641-1159 or e-mailing cbecker@ruralcolorado.org.
