Bust of Steamboat
Sponsorship for the 2004 Bust of Steamboat are available. Artists and designers are invited to sponsor and decorate a bra for the Bust of Steamboat. Bras will be sold at a live auction Oct. 22 at the Depot Art Center. Sponsorship are a tax-deductible donation of $250 to the Yampa Valley Breast Cancer Awareness Project. All funds benefit uninsured or underinsured women of the Yampa Valley who are in need of mammograms or financial assistance for breast cancer treatment. Call Debbie Curd at 871-7907 or 879-2373.
Tread of Pioneers presents ‘Levis and Lace’ at 5:30
Tread of Pioneers Museum hosts “Levis and Lace” at 5:30 p.m. today at Storm Mountain Ranch. Attendees are asked to wear their finest Western wear for an evening that includes a roping exhibition, carriage rides, ranch dinner, entertainment by 3-Wire, old-time photographs, a silent auction and more. Tickets cost $75 and are available at the Tread of Pioneers Museum or by calling 879-2214. All proceeds will benefit the museum’s preservation projects.
Volunteer day Sept. 14 for Routt Invasive Plant Posse
A volunteer day for the Routt Invasive Plant Posse is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 14. The collaborative effort among Routt County, the city of Steamboat Springs, the Colorado Division of Wildlife, Colorado State Parks, The Nature Conservancy and the U.S. Forest Service will survey early invasions of noxious weeds along the Yampa River and its tributaries. Plants being surveyed include tamarisk, Russian olive, meadow knapweed and purple loosestrife. Assistance is needed to help stop these species from taking root along the river.

Youth hockey association taking coach applications

Humble Ranch Benefit
to be held Sept. 10
The fourth-annual Humble Ranch Benefit will begin with a barbecue, square dance and silent auction with sculptor Jeff Wolf from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 10. A benefit Trail-a-Thon will be from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 11 with a horseback ride, run and hike over Emerald Mountain. Tribute to those serving overseas is in September
Names of people who are serving or have died in action in Iraq and Afghanistan are being collected for a tribute at the “Wings and Wheels in the ‘Boat,” a Labor Day celebration at Steamboat Springs Airport.
Residents of Northwest Colorado should send information about relatives, friends or others serving overseas for a tribute at 11:30 a.m. Saturday during Labor Day weekend. Photos and information on those serving abroad will be displayed on a bulletin board during the tribute. There may be a military flyover.
