Brichta named to development team

Several strong results at the end of last season have helped Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club snowboarder Paul Brichta earn a spot on the development squad for the U.S. Snowboarding Team.

“Paul had a stellar season,” said Jon Casson, Winter Sports Club snowboarding program director.

Casson said being named to the team should open doors for the 18-year-old snowboarder who came to Steamboat Springs from Minnesota a couple of years ago to train with the Winter Sports Club.

Brichta will join Maddy Schaffrick and Matt Ladley, who already are on the development team, which is better known as the “Rookie Team.”

Casson said several top results paved the way for Brichta being named to the team. The Steamboat rider just missed the finals at a Grand Prix event this season and won the open class at the 2010 Spring Massive in Breckenridge.
