Brewery approved for Hayden

— The Yampa Valley Brewing Company has gotten the green light to open a brewery in downtown Hayden.

On Thursday, the Hayden Town Council unanimously approved the company’s conditional use permit to operate in a 1,500-square-foot building with two overhead garage doors at Walnut Street and Jefferson Avenue behind A-1 Liquor.

“We’re hoping to open early to mid-summer,” said Hayden resident Jared Aylor, who is opening the business with brewmaster Neil Siggson, another Hayden resident.

After considering two other locations, Aylor thinks they have found the right spot. The business will be accessed from Walnut Street and a patio will face Jefferson Avenue. The brewery now plans to partner to offer food with the Hiway Bar, which has a patio next to the brewery’s.

“Literally, you can hand it over the fence,” Aylor said.

After moving to Denver in 2006, Aylor said he witnessed the craft beer industry explode. After moving to Hayden, Aylor met Siggson, who lived just a few doors down and has been brewing beer since 2001.

“It’s been my passion for years to open a brewery,” Aylor said. “I just needed another person.”

Once production ramps up, they will be able to make 14 kegs of beer every two weeks with their seven-barrel system.

Aylor said they want to have their beer available at bars and restaurants in Hayden, Oak Creek and Craig.

At the brewery, they hope to attract hunters, campers, Craig residents and those driving by on U.S. Highway 40. Initial plans are to have the tasting area open to the public from noon to 9 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
