Board to consider funding request
April 18, 2006
The Town Board will have Hayden’s friendly skies in mind when it meets at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The board will consider a request to budget $5,000 in 2007 to help fund the installation of navigation and plane surveillance equipment at Yampa Valley Regional Airport.
The equipment will be installed at other area airports, as well. It will allow air traffic controllers in Denver to better monitor planes in the valley.
The system also will improve safety because it will allow different approach pattern options for pilots landing at area airports, according to a report from Routt County Manager Tom Sullivan. Officials think the system also will provide more efficient arrivals and departures to and from Denver International Airport. They estimate the total economic benefit at $132 million.
The $5,000 would be the town’s portion of $500,000 in local matching funds being raised for the Phase 1 one cost of $6.8 million.
There also will be an update about construction at the airport.
