Bikers fare well in Gunnison race

Mountain bikers certainly fared well in Gunnison

Several Steamboat Springs mountain bikers placed well in a race there last weekend.

Many local mountain bikers competed in the “Rage in the Sage” 24-hour mountain bike race Aug. 19 and 20. The race started at noon Saturday and ended at noon Sunday.

Essam Welch and Danny Armstrong placed first in the Men’s Duo category, completing 19 laps. Jon Casson and Kevin Chapman completed 16 laps and finished third.

In the Men’s Group of Four division, the team of Nate Bird, Eddie Keiser, Rob Peterson and Paolo Guide placed third, completing 22 laps. Eddie Briones, Caleb Franklin, Corwin Gugel and Jim Harkness, competing in the Single Speed Four division, completed 19 laps and finished third.

Carri Wullner completed 12 laps to finish fourth in the Women’s Solo division. Doug Demusz completed 16 laps in the Men’s Solo division to place fifth. Paul Maniacip placed eighth, completing 15 laps.
