Bike races rescheduled, Town Challenge to next week, Captain of the Boat to Thursday

— Cyclists eager to tackle Wednesday’s unique Town Challenge race will have to wait a week. Persistent morning rain showers forced organizers into canceling the race and postponing it a week.

The event, which was scheduled to take place at Steamboat Ski Area, sends riders on a circuit course on lower mountain trails with the top riders making four loops on the track.

Registration for the event can be completed online at and costs $25. On-site registration will be available for $35.

Mountain bikers won’t have to wait that long to give their competitive side a good workout, however. The first week of the Captain of the Boat downhill mountain bike series was cancelled last week and will be raced Thursday.

Steamboat Bike Park manager Trevyn Newpher said a technical glitch brought the series to a halt before it could begin, but things have been worked out, and the series will be ready to roll at 6 p.m.

Registration will be available from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Steamboat Bike Shop in Gondola Square. The race is $10 for riders, or a season pass to the season’s five events can be purchased for $40.
