Big win important for Soroco girls

— Typically, a team that’s proven itself as strong as the Soroco High School girls basketball squad wouldn’t have much to worry about against a foe like DeBeque, who the Rams faced Friday night.

And Soroco didn’t come remotely close to losing the road game, winning 81-12.

Since one of the Rams’ leading scorers was lost for the season last week with an injury, however, every game is important to Soroco, and coach David Bruner said his squad made the most of Friday’s matchup.

“I was really pleased with how disciplined the girls were,” he said. “They did the things I wanted them to do. We were able to play some different combinations and work on some stuff, and that was really good for us.”

Jessica Rossi scored 23 points to lead Soroco, while Briana Peterson had 15, Morgan George 11 and Hayley Johnson 10.

The team scored 37 points in the second quarter to take a commanding lead into halftime.

Soroco plays another league game at 1 p.m. today at home against North Park.
