Tasha Compos knows she’ll never make the big bucks running her small coffee shop and bakery business in Steamboat Springs.
But spend a few minutes with her at MountainBrew’s bustling flagship location on Oak Street, and it’s apparent Compos feels like she’s still hit a jackpot.
“It’s definitely the customers,” Compos says when asked what drives her to show up to work as early as 2 a.m. on some mornings to start baking cakes, cupcakes and other goodies that are in high demand. “That is what is so rewarding.”
Steamboat’s residents and visitors have more places to get their MountainBrew fix than they’ve ever had before.
In recent years, the local coffee spot has expanded with two new locations at the Old Town Hot Springs and the Bud Werner Memorial Library.
Compos entered the city’s coffee scene with her husband, Al, in 2010 by renovating Spill the Beans on 13th Street.
They’ve had MountainBrew on Oak Street now for more than four years.
Their coffees are roasted in Portland, Oregon, and are blended from Arabica beans.
Tasha Compos says the baking side of the business is really taking off.
She has plans to offer custom cakes and baked goods for at least 60 weddings this summer.
“It feels great to be part of the community,” Compos says.
