Bere S. Neas: Drake is an asset

Coach Mark Drake is an asset to the Steamboat community and for the area’s young adults.

I am now 49 years old, and Drake was my football coach in the early 1970s. My family has been good friends with him and his wife, Karen, since that time.

I was fortunate enough to play on the state championship basketball team in 1971, and my team was honored a few years ago at the state tournament. Not only were my teammates and coach Bob Harris present, but also Mark and Karen Drake were there, even though Drake was not affiliated with the basketball program.

I feel Mark Drake has contributed to my life, and I have the utmost respect for him and his accomplishments.

Do what is right for the community, take the politics out of it and give full consideration to resolving a matter with a man who has had an effect on countless young individuals who have gone on to become responsible and productive adults.
