Baden into Dew Tour finals

— One last Steamboat Springs snowboarder earned a spot in this weekend’s finals at the Dew Tour in Breckenridge.

Nik Baden, just 15 years old, finished ninth in the men’s snowboard slopestyle division, earning the chance to compete again on Sunday. He advanced thanks to a score of 73.2 on his first of two runs. His second wasn’t as strong, coming in at 51.6, but the first was good enough to land him in the finals field of 16 riders.

Shaun White finished with the top overall score at 93.2. Eric Willett was second, Sebastien Toutant third, Pettu Piiroinen fourth, Chas Guldemond fifth, Sage Kotsenburg sixth, Brandon Davis seventh and Stale Sandbech eighth, ahead of Baden.

The Dew Tour is the first of five Olympic selection events for the U.S. Team.

Arielle Gold qualified for the women’s half-pipe finals, and Taylor Gold and Benji Farrow made the cut in the men’s half-pipe finals. Both of those events are set for Saturday.
