— Attorneys have requested that hearings scheduled for Friday be delayed for the couple being held on charges related to the Edward Zimmerman homicide.

Lucas Johnson, who is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder, is now scheduled to be in court at 1 p.m. March 23.

The investigation into Zimmerman’s death is ongoing, and the District Attorney’s Office has not yet filed formal charges against Johnson or his wife, Kristen Johnson.

The District Attorney’s Office now has until March 20 to file charges against Lucas Johnson.

Steamboat Springs attorney Leslie Goldstein has been appointed to represent Kristen Johnson, who is being held on suspicion of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.

Goldstein requested that Kristen Johnson return to court at 1:30 p.m. March 26. She also asked for formal charges to be filed by March 26.

Zimmerman was reported missing Feb. 28 after he did not show up for work the two previous days.

Zimmerman was reportedly growing medical marijuana in his home between Steamboat Springs and Stagecoach.

In a court document, Goldstein wrote that it appeared the District Attorney’s Office is “attempting to lay out a motive for Mr. Zimmerman’s untimely death by asserting that the destruction/or theft of marijuana plants was for financial gain.”
