Arthur Houk: Thank you, patrol

My wife and I recently returned from a family reunion in Southern California.

While there, the U.S. Border Patrol had stepped up the apprehension of illegal immigrants who have crossed the border from Mexico into the United States. The U.S. Border Patrol is to be commended for stepping up the enforcement of the U.S. immigration laws.

In the past, because of the lax enforcement of the U.S. immigration laws, many came into our country illegally. We are happy to see this improvement. If the United States passes and puts a law on the books and does not enforce that law, it is not worth the paper on which it is written.

We read in the Bible in Ecclesiastes, 8:11, these words, “Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to evil.”

I believe that most Americans, including myself, support legal immigration into the United States.
