Arrest made in child porn case

— A 31-year-old Steamboat Springs man was arrested Thursday morning on suspicion of trading child pornography.

Steamboat Springs Public Safety Director J.D. Hays said the police department assisted in an FBI investigation focusing on Jason Craig. The police department executed a search warrant June 7 at Craig’s home at 624 Grand St., seizing a computer from the home.

Steamboat officers were asked to assist in the FBI’s investigation of the case because the FBI was concerned that residents at the home were swapping child pornography, Hays said.

After seizing the computer, investigators found “a significant quantity of child pornography,” he said.

Officers executed a federal arrest warrant at 8 a.m. Thursday, taking Craig into custody, Hays said.

Craig has been taken to Denver where he is awaiting indictment, Hays said.

Hays did not know how many or what types of charges Craig is facing, he said.

During the search of Craig’s home in June, officers also found 8 ounces of marijuana, Hays said.
