Arielle Gold into Dew Tour finals

Steamboat Springs — Arielle Gold was second to Kelly Clark last week in the qualification and finals rounds at the U.S. Grand Prix snowboard half-pipe event at Copper Mountain.
Now competing a few miles away at Breckenridge, she’s still in the same spot, second behind Clark after the qualification round at the Dew Tour.
Of course, that’s not a bad place to be sitting. Gold was among the five riders to qualify for Saturday’s Dew Tour finals thanks to a strong second run. She checked in with a score of 68.50 on her first run, but nailed her second to score at 92.25.
Clark also hit on her second run, scoring a 95.00.
Chloe Kim held the first run lead with a score of 89.00 and slipped to third. Xuetong Cai was fourth with a score of 85.75 and Elena Hight was fifth at 80.75.
Maddy Schaffrick rebounded from a rough qualification round at Copper Mountain, but her Wednesday best of 64.50 left her just outside the field, in seventh place.
The men’s snowboard half-pipe competitors take to the snow Thursday and also will compete in finals Saturday.
