Area skiers receive pass deal favorably

Some Steamboat skiers say they'll add Winter Park, Copper for extra cost

— The announcement that Steamboat Ski Area season-pass holders will be able to add unlimited access to Copper Mountain and Winter Park for a few more dollars next season appears to have been met with open arms.

“I’d take a trip to Copper Mountain at least 10 times a year,” season-pass holder Zane Chambers said Friday. “I love Copper Mountain.”

Chambers, who works for Alpine Taxi, said with the recent sale of the ski area he figured the price of a season pass would be lowered, but the benefit of being able to add days at Winter Park and Copper Mountain is worth the extra money.

“Sixty dollars more for two mountains is not bad at all,” he said.

Intrawest Colorado announ-ced the creation of the Rocky Mountain Ultimate Pass on Thursday, allowing Steamboat Ski Area season-pass holders unlimited days at Copper and Winter Park for one price.

The Ultimate Pass will cost $999 and will be on sale April 5 through Aug. 15. In addition, for every Ultimate Pass purchased, patrons will receive a child’s (12 and younger) pass at no additional charge.

“Since I’ve moved here I haven’t skied anywhere else,” 20-year Steamboat Ski Area patron Rich Tremaine said. “I guess you’d consider me a happy local, but it seems like a good deal.”

For pass holders such as Anna Harrison, the price and the opportunity to ski with friends on the Front Range makes the deal too good to pass up.

“I’d probably do it,” she said, adding the pass would allow her to meet friends from around the state at both resorts. “For $64, if you only make one trip you’ve made your money right there.”

Additionally, Intrawest Colo-rado put together a new season pass product designed to bring more skiers and snowboarders from the Front Range. With the Rocky Mountain Super Pass Plus, skiers would be able to ski Winter Park and Copper Mountain plus six days at Steamboat. The Super Pass Plus also would give skiers unlimited Friday afternoons (after 12:30 p.m.) at Steamboat.
