Annual Steamboat Springs Turkey Trot returns Thursday, registration still open
The Steamboat Springs Turkey Trot, a local Thanksgiving tradition, runs through town once again Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m.
The event, which can be considered a race, fun run or walk, benefits Steamboat Springs High School’s cross country and track and field programs. The 5-kilometer out and back course starts and ends at SSHS, taking runners to the Strawberry Park area and back.
Weather conditions will likely be snowy, icy and cold. Those participating should dress in cold weather running gear and are encouraged to sport a costume during the run. Prizes for best costume will be awarded following the conclusion of the race.
The race will not be finishing in Gardner Stadium, so dogs are welcome to run as well.
Pre-registration for the race closes at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Participants can register in advance at RunSignUp.com/Race/CO/SteamboatSprings/SteamboatSpringsTurkeyTrot.
In-person registration comes at an additional $5 for runners age 11 and up, and can be done in the main entrance of SSHS from 8:15-9 a.m. on race day.
The first 350 participants, who are age 11 and up, to register will receive a Steamboat Springs logo buff.
Packet pick-up for the event is available from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday at the main entrance of the high school. Race day packet pick-up is from 8:15-9 a.m. Thursday. Race directors encourage participants to pick up their packets Wednesday night to avoid long lines Thursday morning.
Parking will be available in the main parking lot of the high school.
The event is also accepting non-perishable food donations which will be accepted on-site for Lift Up Food Bank at a bin located near the finish line.
The race is also accepting donations for the Bataan Death March and Ukraine relief efforts. Those interested in making a donation can bring cash, write a check to Steamboat track and field, or make a donation through the race site.
