Entries are now open for the Steamboat Art Museum’s 8th Annual Painted Words competition.

The competition, supported by Ski Town Media and Off the Beaten Path Bookstore, challenges writer of all ages to write a story or poem inspired by a piece in the current exhibition at the museum — The Art of Printmaking: Process and Passion.

Entries should be inspired by a painting in the current exhibit and can be up to 500 words. The deadline to receive entries is 5 p.m. on July 15 with an awards ceremony planned for August 5 at 5:30 p.m. at the Steamboat Art Museum.

The competition is inspired by the memory of Susan deWardt, “who was a dedicated teacher, writer, artist and poetry therapist,” according to a museum news release.

“The Painted Words event celebrates our very talented writers’ community and the exceptional paintings in our exhibition. The creative stories always provide fascinating new perspectives regarding the selected paintings – a delightful exercise for all of our imaginations,” added Steamboat Art Museum Executive Director Betse Gransby in a statement.
