— Colorado Speaker of the House Dickey Lee Hullinghorst will be the keynote speaker at the Routt County Democrats annual potluck dinner Saturday.

The Jefferson Jackson Potluck Dinner Fundraiser begins at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Steamboat Springs Community Center, 1605 Lincoln Ave.

“We are so excited to have Dickey Lee Hullinghorst come. It shows her great commitment to the state,” said Catherine Carson, chair of the Routt County Democratic Party.

Hullinghorst has been involved in public policy in Colorado for more than 35 years, serving on numerous state and local boards and commissions, as chairman of the Boulder County Democratic Party and as co-chair of the Patterns of Development Committee and Open Space Task Force.

She is now midway through her third term representing House District 10 in Boulder, and she spent the 2013 and 2014 legislative sessions as House majority leader.

Carson said she’s pleased that the two senior members of the Colorado House are currently women, Hullinghorst and Majority Leader Cristina Duran.

“They’re doing a lot of great things that are focusing on the middle class,” Carson said.

Saturday’s event will have a live auction, with items including a Circle the Zirkels airplane ride. County Commissioner Doug Monger will act as auctioneer.

“It’s always a very fun, high energy evening,” Carson said. “It’s one of our key fundraisers.”

State Rep. Diane Mitsch Bush, who Carson described as studied and impressive in her work, is also expected to attend.

“It’s an opportunity to hear an incredible keynote speaker and welcome Diane home for the weekend,” Carson said.

The event is a potluck, and guests are encouraged to bring a dish to share, and there will be door prizes.

A suggested donation to attend is $25 for adults and $10 for college students. Those 18 and under are free.
