ALICE VAN CLEAVE ROWLEY: 1940 — 2005

Former Steamboat Springs resident Alice Van Cleave Rowley passed away Jan. 21, 2005, in Calabash, N.C., after a short illness. She was 64.

Alice was born Dec. 17, 1940, in Steamboat to Chris and Anna Van Cleave. She attended school in Steamboat, and graduated from Steamboat Springs High School in 1959.

Alice attended the Central Business College of Denver, graduating in June 1960.



A year later, in June 1961, she married Allan Rowley in Steamboat. The couple moved to Salt Lake City in 1962, where Alice worked for 27 years as an inside saleswoman for Anixter, where she had many friends.

Alice and Allan moved to North Carolina last year to enjoy the ocean during their retirement years.



Alice loved to travel, and she and Allan visited many different countries. She particularly loved the ocean and spent as much time as possible on the beach and in the water.

Alice is survived by her husband, Allan; two sons, Gregory and his wife, Eilene, of Lapoint, Utah, and Daniel and his wife, Gretchen, of Riverton, Utah; a sister, Vera Combs, and her husband, Jake, of Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Donald Van Cleave, of Steamboat; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held Jan. 28, 2005, at Redwood Memorial Mortuary in West Jordan, Utah. Inurnment was at Redwood Memorial Cemetery.
