— Resiliency paid off for an eighth-grade Steamboat Youth Lacrosse team.

Playing in the 2010 Warrior Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Jamboree, the Steamboat team won the upper white division in overtime Sunday.

The team beat the Littleton Panthers, 6-5, on a goal from Ben Wharton. In the double-elimination format, Steamboat had beat Littleton on Saturday before the two met again in the championship.

Littleton won the second matchup, 6-1.

“Then 10 minutes later we turned around, played them again and beat them 6-5 in overtime,” coach Neill Redfern said.

Littleton tied the game with two seconds remaining and had the first possession in overtime, but Steamboat goalie Kaleb VanArsdale came up with several big saves.

“The eighth-graders had some great games and games where they could have played better,” Redfern said. “But it was great to finish on a positive note.”
