70 Steamboat High School students, 7 staff members in quarantine after contact with COVID-19 positive student

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — A message sent out Sunday evening to families and staff in the Steamboat Springs School District has indicated there has been a positive COVID-19 case at Steamboat Springs High School.

A message sent by Steamboat Springs Superintendent Brad Meeks said a group of about 70 high school students and seven staff members are now in quarantine until Oct. 28 or 29, dependent on the last day of contact.

Those individuals have been identified as being in close contact with the student who tested positive. Meeks said he received notification of the positive results Sunday.

According to Meeks, the Routt County Public Health Department said it is safe to have students and staff in the buildings.

“We are working closely with Routt County Health,” Meeks said.

If families did not hear from school officials, it means their student was not identified as being in close contact with the positive student or anyone with COVID-19.

Students awaiting results from a COVID-19 test should not attend school in-person.
