4 youth hockey girls tabbed all-league

Editor’s note: This story has been corrected to reflect that U12 player Alexa Paoli was named all-league

For their performances on the ice this winter, four girls on Steamboat Springs Youth Hockey League squads were named to their respective Mountain States Girls Hockey All-League teams.

And once again, the Steamboat Springs squads were one of only two teams across Colorado and New Mexico to qualify teams from all three age divisions (U12, U14 and U19) at the state playoff tournament Feb. 20 to 22 in Denver.

Players Casey Buchanan and Alexa Paoli and their goalie Kelly Strotbeck made the MSGHL U12 all-league team.

“Those three stood out pretty strongly,” MSGHL President Scott Glynn said. “Statistically, Kelly in particular had a fantastic year in goal.”

Steamboat Springs High School student Maddie Thompson made the MSGHL U19 squad.

Coaches from across the league each submit nominations for potential all-leaguers. They are allowed to nominate two forwards, a defenseman and a goalie. The girls found out about their all-league honors during the state playoffs.
