2019 Best of the Boat locally brewed beer: Butcherknife Brewing Co.’s Amputator

In a coveted category like this, voters turned out in droves to designate town’s Best Locally Brewed Beer.

With 7.2% alcohol by volume, Butcherknife’s Amputator might sound intimidating, but take a sip and the IPA isn’t scary at all.

“It has tangerine aroma notes and the bitterness is low compared to most IPAs,” says brewer Nathan Johansing. “This sets it apart from most heavy IPAs. And we use Colorado hops.”

Try it — or the Sunshine Express IPA, which won gold at the Great American Beer Competition — at any number of bars around town, or at Butcherknife’s taproom on Elk River Road.
