2019 Best of the Boat cowgirl: Barb Shipley
Barb Shipley didn’t grow up on a ranch, but by 6 years old she had already chosen the cowgirl lifestyle.
Without livestock of her own, she spent her free time on her friends’ cattle ranches in western Nebraska, lending a hand to such day-to-day operations as branding and herding.
“I just fell in love with it,” she says.
Living in South Routt, Shipley has four horses that she loves to ride when she isn’t working as a real estate professional at Steamboat Sotheby’s International Realty.
“There are a lot of different types of cowgirls,” she says. “I’m more of a ranch cowgirl.” Her husband, John, is a locally famous cowboy in his own right, announcing the Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo.
