Sanders wins Routt County precinct caucus

Sen. Bernie Sanders handily won the Democratic precinct caucus in Routt County, gathering 406 votes to Hillary Clinton’s 230, according to Catherine Carson, chair of Routt County Democrats.

County results mirrored statewide totals, in which Sanders defeated Clinton with 57.8 percent of the vote.

Carson said 644 registered Democrats turned out to caucus countywide, 530 of them in Steamboat Springs.

Colorado Republicans did not cast preferential votes for president, but did hold precinct caucuses.

Although Routt County Republican committee member Chuck McConnell did not have official turnout numbers at press time Tuesday, he said he estimates turnout to have been “fairly normal.”
