GRANBY — Two people were killed Friday, Jan. 4, when the truck in which they were riding went off a cliff about 11 miles southwest of Kremmling in Grand County.
The rollover crash killed driver Toby J. Hargadine, 37, of Kremmling, and passenger Crysta L. Berntsen, 26, of Minturn, according to a news release from the Colorado State Patrol.
The Toyota Tundra was headed eastbound on Trough Road, also called Grand County Road 1, near Inspiration Point when it lost control and rotated counterclockwise, skidding off the left side of the road and rolling numerous times down the cliff, according to the release.
The truck came to rest about 705 feet from the road near mile marker 9, according to Grand County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Dan Mayer. He estimated the slope was about 70 or 80 degrees.
The male driver was ejected and found about 300 feet from the truck. The female passenger was wearing a seatbelt.
The truck was discovered at about 7:44 a.m. Friday by a road and bridge worker. The crash, which likely happened Thursday night, is still under investigation.
