Obituary: Robert Emory Hull
Robert Emory Hull November 26, 1933 – January 22, 2020
On Wednesday January 22nd Steamboat Springs lost a long-time resident, Robert Emory Hull.
Robert (or Bob as he preferred), was born in 1933 and grew up in Amboy, Illinois. The Son of Dorothy Searles and William Hull. He is survived by his son Robert C. Hull of Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
After serving in the US Army as a civil engineer during the Korean War Bob earned his undergraduate degree from Wisconsin State College. Bob then went on to earn his Masters of Science in Engineering from the University of Washington in Seattle.
Deciding to stay in the Pacific Northwest for a few years, Bob began his career with Boeing. Further highlights from a life dedicated to science and engineering are projects with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California as well as becoming a member of the team tasked to develop the first Space Shuttle Orbiter while with Rockwell International. He continued his career with Lockheed Martin in the Denver area where he ultimately retired.
Bob loved to ski with his buddies from work and competed with his ski club, the Satellite Ski Team. He passed his love for skiing on to his son who loves to ski and snowboard to this day. Bob also was an avid runner, hiker, and cyclist when the weather was warmer. His hobbies and passions made Steamboat Springs a perfect place to spend his retirement.
Bob was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and son. He has contributed numerous achievements that have pushed the envelope in aviation, explored the frontiers of space, improved the lives of millions and defended our freedom. We are thankful for the imprint that he has made on our lives and society.
A Military Honor Guard service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, February 16, 2020 at Yampa Valley Funeral Home. A Celebration of Bob’s life will continue immediately after services at his son Robb’s home.
