Obituary: Mark Walter Steur
December 7, 2017
October 6, 1949- November 29, 2017
Mark Walter Steur loved adventures. He passed away at age 68 on November 29, 2017 while visiting his son in Florida. Mark spent his early years in Evanston, Illinois, the son of William R. Steur and Emily Chartier, later moving to Colorado for college. He fell in love with Colorado and never really left. Evergreen, Aspen, Steamboat Springs and southern Colorado were the areas he called home.
As an avid traveler, skier, biker, commercial pilot, hang glider pilot, sailboat captain, hiker, rock climber, motorcycle enthusiast and more, Mark took adventuring to a higher level.
Volunteering for Routt County Search and Rescue was a natural fit for him, as was his role as an environmentalist. Mark worked designing homes that were not only energy efficient but environmentally friendly. Later turning to an interest as a charter pilot he owned an airplane that was based in Aspen, Colorado.
Mark is survived by his only son, Grayson, who is attending college in Florida. He is also survived by his siblings, Lee, Don and Lynne along with their families.
In lieu of a memorial or flowers, please make a donation to one of these two causes that Mark believed in: The Sierra Club at http://www.sierraclub.org and the Yampa Valley Autism Program in Steamboat Springs at http://www.yampavalleyautism.org
