Kathryn “Kathy” Eileen Crawford, 72 of Denver, Colorado died Sunday November 10, 2019 after a long and brave battle with cancer. She was born in North Dakota on October 17, 1947 to Kenneth Leroy Crawford and Ramona Eileen Hemmingway. Over the years, Kathy lived in Illinois, Oregon, Colorado, Minnesota, and California. Anyone who knew Kathy knew she was a woman of compassion. There is not a person in this world she wouldn’t have helped if they needed it. Her mid-western upbringing served her well in this regard. With her heart of gold, her own children and her grandson came first. Kathy lived her life with kindness, care, and devotion to those around her – family, friends, and neighbors. She generously opened her home to travelers and students. You often would find people living in the Crawford home, short- and long-term, who needed a place to stay for any reason. In 1982, Kathy married the love of her life, Robert Samuel Dick. Rob and Kathy worked together, raised two children together, and lived the majority of their lives as an inseparable team. You seldom heard their names apart but rather as “Rob and Kathy.” Kathy loved being a mother and was proud of both her daughters, Svea and Lauren. Both are successful women in their fields of law and cosmetology. Kathy always encouraged Svea and Lauren to explore the greater world around them. Using their mother’s giving nature as a model, her children have grown up to be successful, contributing individuals. This is her greatest legacy. Kathy was a passionate, tireless member of every community to which she belonged throughout her life. She stood by her husband’s side as an expert accountant and project manager with affordable housing and a wide variety of development projects. Kathy served on many Boards including the Whiteman Primary School in Steamboat Springs and the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club. Kathy also loved to play Scrabble and would quietly relish the glory when she would win. She was an avid reader and belonged to many book clubs in the numerous communities in which she lived. Kathy Crawford is survived by her daughter, Svea Crawford (her husband Josh Lawhon), her daughter, Lauren Crawford, and the apple of her eye – her grandson James Grinter. She is also survived by her mother Ramona Crawford, brothers Dan Crawford and Rod Crawford and their children and families. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Dick and her father, Kenneth Crawford. Her family will hold a private celebration.
