Obituary: Jerald T. ‘Jerry’ Kelton
September 16, 1945 — April 18, 2019
Former Routt County resident, Jerry Kelton, died on Thursday, April 18, 2019, at the Hospice of the Valley in Surprise, AZ. Born to J.T. and Beatrice E. Kelton on September 16th 1945 (recognized by his Mother as the 17th) in Steamboat Springs, CO. Along with his Parents, he was preceded in Death by his Brother Harold J Kelton and Sister Marjorie Karen Kelton. Jerry leaves behind his loving wife of 31-1/2 years, Barbara Jean Kelton and five children, Jolie Goddard, Todd Kelton, Jerry Delay, Randy Delay and Gene Delay. Jerry also has 13 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, three siblings, Maureen Cole, Dan Yeager and Jalynn Hoffman as well as one aunt, several cousins, nieces and nephews. Affectionately known to many as Jerry, “JK” or simply Kelton lived in Steamboat Springs for many years, finished high school in Ceres, CA and then moved on to Alaska for a year and a half before enlisting in the US Navy where he served from 1966-1970 including a time in Vietnam. Jerry then attended Sacramento City College for two years in the Aeronautical program and attended Naval service schools in Tennessee where upon release from both, earned his Federal Airframe and Powerplant Certificate. Jerry spent many years operating heavy equipment in and around Routt County Colorado, including Energy Fuels (Twenty Mile) and several years for Routt County Road and Bridge. After Retiring, Jerry moved to Sun City, Arizona where he enjoyed family visits and daily adventures with his wife Barbara. He moved through life profoundly, was the true patriarch, loved his family tremendously and was loved greatly. Jerry had an unwavering love in his Lord Jesus Christ and was a kind, kind man. There will be a graveside service held at the Hayden Cemetery at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 27th, 2019 followed by celebration of life at the American Legion Hall.
