Obituary: David Rodriguez Jr.
February 10, 1963 – November 17, 2019
Dave was born on February 10th 1963 in southern California and passed into glory after a long cancer battle on November 17th, surrounded by family. Known as “Big Dave” to old friends, he was an unofficial mentor to the kids that grew up in his apartment complex in southern California. Playing basketball, taking them camping, inviting them over for movie nights (Jurassic Park on surround sound! What? It was the 90’s) and teaching the boys how to lift weights. As time went on, he and his family eventually settled in Craig, CO to be closer to family. Dave was known for his big smile and everything artistic. He was a great artist and painter, which he and his wife Laurie took up together recently. And man was he handy! If we needed a coffee table, Dave would just build it. If tile needed to be laid in a bathroom, Dave knew how. There’s a huge water feature in the backyard of his home build from rock, complete with a waterfall and pond where koi fish live that Dave just figured out how to build. His skill and talent was incredible. Dave worked in the construction industry most of his life, framing houses but then eventually moved on to Colowyo in Craig. He was handsome and dedicated and even when he knew he was sick, his concerns were never about him but rather, his wife. He enjoyed fishing with his father-in-law, fly-tying, and spending time with family and his beloved dog, Gemini. Oh, and he loved the Raiders. That should be said. Dave was preceded in death by his mother, Rosa; father, David as well as his infant daughter, Kelsey. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of almost 30 years, Laurie; his daughters Brittany, Mandy, Krysta and Kaylee; his son, Matt; grandchildren Isabella, Jeremiah, Olivia, Ellie (“red”), Paisley and Millie (“toughie”) and his many animals who were constant companions. A celebration of life service will be held at 1pm Sunday, Dec 1st at The Journey at First Baptist Church in Craig, CO.
