Obituary: Daniel Robert Shores
January 6, 1952 – May 3, 2019
It is with the deepest and unimaginable sadness we announce the sudden passing of Dan Shores due to complications from a severe lung disorder at 67 years of age. Dan will be forever missed by his soul mate and devoted wife, Roxanna, and his son Cameron Niswander, who he loved so very much and of whom he was so very proud. Dan will be missed by his sister, Donna Kanehl, and many nieces and nephews. His adoring four legged friends will always be looking for him. Dan will also be remembered with love and affection by his childhood friend, Tony Burke, who was like a brother to him. He will be missed by all of his friends from his hometown and by all of his friends in the Steamboat Springs Community because of his strength of character, helpfulness and steadfast nature.
Dan was born in Los Angeles, CA where he engaged in many sports such as skiing, surfing, karate, horseback riding, mountain biking and running. He continued enjoying all of those activities throughout his lifetime. Dan was a talented artist who owned and managed a sign painting business in Southern California.
In 1992, Dan left Los Angeles and moved to Steamboat Springs to pursue a new life in the Rocky Mountains. He joined Steamboat Ski and Resort as a ski instructor until his passing. Dan owned a successful construction business and was also a respected real estate agent with Coldwell Banker.
Dan will be deeply missed by so many. On the day of his passing his family and friends were by his side. A beautiful sunset decorated the skies outside his window which pointed to the snow-covered mountains he loved so much. He listened to his favorite music which was playing by his bedside.
His family thanks all who have shared thoughts and prayers. Dan would want everyone to know that he lived life exactly as he wanted and that his family and friends made his life so amazing.
Services will be private. Memorial donations may be made in the memory of Dan to the Routt County Human Society.
