Where to watch the 2014 FIFA World Cup
Steamboat Springs — Brace yourselves, the World Cup is upon us.
Every four years, nations gather together to compete for soccer immortality and bragging rights. For those of us who don’t have the time or cash to make it to each game, bars and restaurants offer a similar atmosphere to bring the game to us right here in Steamboat Springs.
The 2014 FIFA World Cup will be featured on ESPN with 24 hours of “Countdown to Brazil” programming with a focus on the quadrennial tournament. The programming started at 1 p.m. today (MST) on ESPN.
For all of you wishing to watch the game at one of the bars downtown, Explore Steamboat have compiled a list of places you can go.
Mahogany Ridge Brewery & Grill
Happy hour: 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. then again from 9:30 to 11 p.m.
OTP will offer half off draft and bottled beers for the game.
Tap House will offer $1 off PBR beers and $2 for domestic beers
Happy hour at 3 p.m.
McKnight’s Irish Pub will be hosting Steamboat Soccer Club’s inaugural summer fundraiser in support of player scholarships and coaching education/player development programs on from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday. The event is for those 21 and older and also will be a celebration to kickoff the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Tickets are $30, which includes one drink ticket and heavy appetizers. There also will be a silent auction, cash bar and jersey unveiling.
To add even more competition to the games, The World Soccer Challenge allows soccer fanatics to choose who they think will win. It is free to enter and there is only one submission per person. Round 1 must be completed by noon Thursday. Leaders will be updated after each round and the winner will be announced after finals July 13.
Winner of each round will receives a $25 gift card to McKnight’s. Overall winner receives tickets to the July 26 Manchester United FC vs. AS Roma game in Denver and $50 gift card to McKnight’s.
