Vail — A single-day lift ticket at Vail and Beaver Creek will top out at $97 this week, making it the most expensive ticket in the country.

The highest price for a Vail ticket at the window last season was $92.

Aspen and Snowmass, which usually have similar rates to Vail, were charging $90 a ticket as of Friday.

Aspen ticket window representatives said they could not say what next week’s prices will be but that the cost could go up slightly.

Following close behind was Deer Valley, Utah, which was voted the No. 1 ski resort by SKI magazine’s annual poll. A regular season ticket at Deer Valley costs $83, and holiday tickets from Christmas to New Year’s cost $86.

A one-day ticket to the Steamboat Ski Area during the holiday week is $91.

Vail Resorts spokeswoman Kelly Ladyga said single-day tickets make up the smallest portion of the company’s ticket sales. About 10 percent of ticket sales are one- or two-day tickets, she said.

“Most of the people buying those tickets are not destination skiers,” she said. “Basically, it is the person who has passed by dozens of lift ticket and season pass deals for whatever reason and often are not as price sensitive. There are so many ways we make it easy to buy a discounted tickets” for multiple days.

Bookings of three days or more are more common, and the resort is offering deals on multi-day tickets, she said.
