Oak Creek town official arrested on traffic warrant
Oak Creek Town Board member Stephen “Spike” Beven was arrested Sunday morning at his Oak Creek home on a Colorado State Patrol outstanding traffic warrant.
The Routt County Jail book indicates the warrant was for not having insurance.
The Routt County Combined Courts did not have information about the warrant Tuesday.
Routt County Sgt. Miles DeYoung said deputies had contacted Beven on Sunday morning about Beven’s car, which “had been left abandoned in the middle of the road” on Nancy Crawford Boulevard in Oak Creek.
Beven, 68, was arrested at 8:03 a.m. after deputies found a Colorado State Patrol warrant out of Craig for his arrest, DeYoung said.

Beven, who works nights at the Oak Creek Inn and Penny’s Diner in Yampa, could not be reached for comment Tuesday. Beven’s home phone number was disconnected.
Jail records indicate Beven posted a $777 bond and was released from jail. He is scheduled to appear in Routt County Court at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Beven was first elected to the Town Board in 2004, beating incumbent Jim Eskridge by four votes. Beven is up for election in April 2008.
